Dolph Banza
Illustrator Dolph Banza is a self-taught Rwandan visual artist and a trained engineer. Though he masters many visual art disciplines like graphic design and video, he remains committed to illustration, a practice he has been experimenting with ever since he could hold a pencil. Today, Dolph runs a creative agency - InkStain, which seeks to support organizations in telling their stories through visual arts.
The artworks exhibited are inspired by pre-colonial Rwandan aesthetics expressed through craftwork exclusively made by women. Reviving traditional Rwandan aesthetics through illustration is a way for Dolph to reconnect with his heritage and acknowledge the intuitive understanding of geometry and acoustics held by his predecessors; their sense of expression through musical performances, and more generally, the pride of being Rwandan.
